Serve Cartersville

Over the last couple of weeks, Oak Leafers brought in dozens and dozens of boxes full of food, school supplies and other needs.  We delivered it on your behalf to the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter, The Bartow County School Board, and the Red Cross.

On Saturday, our band played for the final car show of the season.  And each of our 25 Journey Groups serve somewhere about once a month. I’m proud that our church looks for ways to be involved in the community.

Next month, we’re going to help the city with their movie night at the park.  Since it’s Halloween, a lot of churches stay away from events like that or do their own fall festivals, our our KidVenture workers are going there to serve the kids.  We’ll also pass out candy and invite cards during the downtown trick or treating.  If you want to serve, let us know.

We don’t just want to invite people to come to us…we want to go to them.  We want to serve and help where we can.  Let’s get out there and do some good.

Actually, we collected items for the Red Cross but somehow there was a mix-up…we had a list of needs from them, but we were contacted by someone local that works with the RC and she said they aren’t able to take donations in this area because they don’t have a pantry or anywhere to store them.

It worked out well, though, because we were able to give those items to a newly-started soup kitchen/street ministry in town. They said that they’d been praying that God would provide for them – apparently they were running low on resources – and soon afterwards I called them asking if they’d like the items we collected for the RC.

I don’t think it was just a coincidence that it worked out that way. :] Just wanted to let you know!
