Here’s five good books that I have recently read or are in the process of reading.

1.  Vintage Jesus by Mark Driscoll.  Very good book about Christianity, with lots of information and some funny stuff as well.

2.  The 33 Strategies of War.  Some nice historical contexts of sneak attacks, grand strategy and other war strategies.  Alexander the Great, Civil War, WW2, and more.

3.  The Collectors.  Sometimes, it’s good to read a little fiction on an airplane.  This is a fast moving story that I read in a couple of hours.

4.  Preaching.  Calvin Miller has a GREAT book on what it means to be a preacher and how to be better.  Every pastor should read this book right away.

5.  I’ll leave #5 open so you can comment.  What’s the best book you’ve read recently?

“The Deity Formerly Known As God” by Jarrett Stevens. Awesome look at our misconceptions about who God is, how we got them, how they affect us now and how we can more correctly see who God is instead of who we want Him to be.

Tim Keller’s ‘The Reason For God’

It’s been one of the most challenging reads. It’s got a ton of good nuggets to get you thinking.

8 Kingdoms by Michael Pearl…. concerning the word ‘kingdoms’ as it is mentioned in the Bible.

Also, Into the WIld…. depressing at first, but really a great book. The movie was visually moving, but the book really comes from a different level; it isn’t better or worse, but just different.

“The Art of Possibility” by Ben Zander – fantastic, very thought provoking leadership book

“The Starfish and the Spider”- Ori Brafman — very thought provoking ideas about decentralization in organizations

and

“Making Vision Stick” by Andy Stanley

absolute surrender by andrew murray. This was actually a sermon by him that was published. He was an english pastor in the 19th century that did alot of missions work in south africa. Its a really short read but really powerful.

Confessions of a Pastor – Craig Groeschel
