Times Change

I read a stat in Church Unique that 65% of pre-k children will have jobs in fields that don’t even exist today. Will told me about a company that will take your cell phone contract and swap it with someone else so you don’t have to pay the termination fee. That’s a great idea.
I met a guy in Seattle when I was there a few weeks ago that works at a company that takes satellite photos of peoples roof’s and measures the slopes, square feet, etc. so roofing companies don’t have to send a guy out to prepare a quote. Who would have thought that would be a real company with real employees?
My wife is starting a coffee shop with a full-fledged supervised kids area. A new take on a coffee shop.
Things change. Culture changes. Technology changes. And while the timeless truths of God’s Word never changes, the way we do ministry must. Sunday School becomes small groups. Small groups will become _________.
Choirs become praise teams. Praise teams become rock bands. Rock bands will become __________.
The church has been accused of being one of the last things to change. That’s because, historically, we have placed our man-made traditions up there with Bible verses. We get sold out to the application of the principle, not the principle itself.
In order to reach people in this day and age, we are going to have to evolve. We’ll have to change the way we think, act, communicate and relate. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow. What mattered yesterday might not matter tomorrow.
