Sunday Recap, Easter Style

What a weekend! I’ll quickly summarize everything the best I can before going to take a three-hour nap.

  • Approximately 60 people indicated that they trusted Christ for salvation, deciding to swear their allegiance to Him this morning. Praise God. Everyone that changed a diaper, set up pipe and drape and pushed buttons had a part in that. I’ve been praying for 50 salvations during the month of March…it looks like God had bigger plans.
  • There were 1350 people at church today. I was praying for 1,000. That’s an all-time record, and about 450 more people than our previous high. That blows me away. Our church is just 19 months old.
  • I talked about tattoos, and we gave people tattoos on stage during all three services. Joel is tougher than Jake, but both have nice, new tattoos on their arms.
  • The point of the message is that external marks are meant to point to internal life change. The point isn’t the mark, it’s the story and the meaning. In the same way, external behavior modification is never enough…what makes us Christians are our changed hearts. If you missed it, you will be able to listen and watch online in a day or so.
  • It was awesome to see hundreds of people come down front and write their name on a giant cross, affirming their allegiance to Jesus Christ.
  • Our volunteers knocked it out of the park this whole weekend. I’m so proud to be the pastor of these amazing people. More than 200 served at the Egg Drop, and so many people work so hard to get everything ready every week.
  • Three services in a row is tough. I forgot how tired I was when we had to do that on a regular basis at the theater.
  • John from Diggerz Tattoo’s did the inking during the services. He brought his wife and daughter and a small crew of people with him. They said they had never been to a church where they felt more accepted and are planning to come back next week.
  • I forgot to take a picture of the staff, but I declare myself the winner of the dress the best contest. I wore a pink shirt, to go with a new pair of jeans. Tim gets the prize for most improved. Nathan would win if the audience consisted of 16 year old girls.
  • I’m pretty sure we were the only church in the country talking about circumcision on Easter Sunday.
  • The tattoo series actually continues next week, and then we kick of a series called I Love the 80s. I can’t wait for that one. Here’s a little video preview.
  • The local paper did a full page spread on the Egg Drop…very nice. I like our local paper…they do a good job.

Yesterday I was amazed how many awesome volunteers God has brought to our church to serve.Oak Leaf has an amazing core of people who serve each week and especially yesterday. Praise God for all He has done!

Michael, this mornings talk was right on and really spoke to me. To quote one of my favorite evangelist, “The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.” Thanks for all you!

Man that is incredible Michael! Sounds like God continues to move at Oak Leaf. Keep it up Bro.

Sunday was remarkable. I was exhausted from the Egg Drop, but still managed to wake myself up and get two very tired teenagers to church at 7:00 AM to help set up.

Michael’s sermon was different that I’ve ever heard. He hit the nail on the head. For such a young man, God has touched him and given him the ability to touch others. As tired as he was, he did a remarkable job presenting the Gospel. I’m so thankful that so many came to know Christ because of this sermon.

Michael, keep up the good work.

Sunday morning was my first visit to OakLeaf. I was invited by my hairdreser. She spoke so highly of your church. My husband, my daughter, her fiance and his cousin all joined me at the early service and we all loved it. I was totally moved by signing the cross. It made me feel so humbled. I am glad to say I will be attending your church on a regular basis. Praise the Lord!!

melodie,

thanks so much for coming, and you’re welcome anytime.

The entire day was great, except that my “one person” didn’t come. I’m not giving up on them though! Maybe next week. Oh, and about the best dressed contest. Everyone looked great, but you have to admit Tim won. It should be a sin to make a $10 shirt look that great:>)
